MARBLE
Marble is an all natural stone product that is mined from the earth. It offers a timeless beauty and a white brightness not available in granite.
In spite of its classic looks, marble is also one of the less expensive choices in natural, hard-wearing stone surfaces.
Marble does scratch more easily than granite, especially when touched for a long period of time by something acidic. A slice of lemon laid down on a polished countertop overnight, for example, can leave a mark in the shape of the lemon slice, appearing duller than the surface around it. It can also stain from wine. Yet, with proper care and attention, marble can be one of the prettiest cost-effective counter top solutions around.
HEAT TOLERANCE
Marble is heat resistant. In the kitchen, it stands up well to hot pans and pots. It's become popular for fireplace surrounds because it won't yellow due to the heat and can withstand the occasional spark on its surface.
CLEANING MARBLE
Marble should ideally be cleaned with natural stone cleansers. If dust or other debris has accumulated on your countertop, dilute a gentle dish soap in a little warm water and use a soft cloth to clean your marble surfaces. Never use vinegar on marble.
THE MARBLE COLLECTION
Aegean GreyNamed after the Aegean Sea, Aegean Grey marble shows an ice white background with gentle movement in pale grey with medium grey lowlights. Aptly named, the movement in the marble tones mimics the surface movement of water and could be fittingly applied in any bathroom interior or as an elegant wall cladding or backsplash.
Bianco CieloBianco Cielo is fittingly named “white sky” in Italian, combining references to the rich heritage of master Italian marble sculptors and the surface’s altostratus undulatus cloud patterns. With feverish plumes of soft grey and ice white, each slab of Bianco Cielo marble exudes a magnetic, luminescent quality.
Bianco GioiaWith its myriad of steel-grey veins on an tasteful, winter-white base, Bianco Gioia is an exceptionally dramatic marble that would easily be the focus of the kitchen, lounge or bathroom design. With so much patterning, it would be advisable to juxtapose this material alongside textures and surfaces that don’t visually compete with it.
Bianco RoyalWith its ethereal, classical beauty, marble is the Italian go-to natural stone for architecture, interior design and even traditional kitchens. Compared to granite and engineered stone it’s quite soft and very porous so not really recommended as a kitchen countertop surface in South Africa. However, Bianco Royal works beautifully as wall cladding and splashbacks and is the classic choice for bathroom vanities.
Botticino SemiclassicoCracks and exquisite, mushroom tones are the features of this beautiful marble surface, also helping to create an antique or aged look to the natural stone. With its trending, neutral colour palette Botticino Semiclassico would fit in perfectly in most interior spaces in all home, retail or commercial environments.
Calacatta GoldWith refined restraint in its veining, each slab of Calacatta Gold carries traces of gold colouring in the magnificent Kintsukuroi style. Meaning “golden repair”, Kintsukuroi is the centuries-old Japanese art of fixing broken pottery with a special lacquer dusted with powdered gold, silver, or platinum.
Creme MarfilThis beautiful marble epitomises the Classical era – one can almost imagine the palatial monuments of ancient Greece and Rome clad from floor to ceiling in this regal, natural stone. Crème Marfil’s creamy, tea tones and its consistent, lightly clouded patterning make it a stunning neutral palette feature piece for any interior or exterior application.
FuroreFurore’s name is as dramatic as its patterning. Meaning, ‘fury’ in Italian, this marble looks like it could have formed part of the setting of Dante’s Inferno. Rust red, charcoal black and crystal white create an epic collision of colours that will help to create a dramatic design scheme in a residential or commercial application.
Glacier WhiteLight-coloured surfaces can help to create a feeling of space, making them an ideal choice for small kitchens, little bathrooms or interiors that don’t get a lot of light. Like all granites and natural stone, Glacier White will require sealing and regular maintenance to retain its quality finish.
Grigio VersilisGrigio Versilis marble captures an intense, moody look and feel in spite of its classic grey and white colouring. Dense movement and intricate veining create an intensity that won’t blend into the background, so make sure you’re purposefully looking to capture attention when applying this beautiful marble in your design.
Marron ImperialIf you love the boldness of Marron Emperador, but her rich yellow undertones don’t quite fit your design scheme, Marron Imperial is an absolute shoo-in. Cacao and coffee tones create the base of this gorgeous marble, balanced by frivolous white highlights that dance across the full slab.
Mystic BrownMystic Brown marble captures all the allure of a steaming cup of luxury hot chocolate. Swirls of Nutella and dark chocolate motifs intertwine with milky highlights, creating an inviting look and feel to this traditional natural stone finish. Mystic Brown is a classic marble that would complement any application, whether flooring, wall cladding, reception counters or table tops.
Mystic Grey SatinMystic Grey Satin is the more subtle relative of Ocean Blue. With atypical patterning for a marble, this surface design proves extremely versatile as flooring, wall cladding, countertops or even bathroom vanities. Her gunmetal grey tones provide the stability to counterbalance a more gregarious material or texture.
Ocean BlueOcean Blue marble’s deep grey tones and powerful veining carries a strong presence that can be played up as a design feature, or muted to complement any design scheme. Concrete grey organic patterning makes Ocean Blue the ideal surface to help create an industrial look and feel. Alternatively, it could perfectly balance a softer, more organic space.
Perlato OlimpiaLoosely translated as ‘the pearl of Olimpia’, Perlato Olimpia is an elegant marble surface in golden biscuit tones and almost has the appearance of a light-coloured, sun-baked clay across an African savannah. Its unusual veining and patterning is inconsistently sown across each slab, making for exceptionally unique patterns across marble blocks cut from the same quarry.
Pietra GreyWith an earthy, grey background and its white, streaky veins, Pietra Grey is an understated, classic marble material suitable for moody spaces, serious interiors or nature-centric interiors. This marble surface would be ideal in a bachelor pad bathroom, apartment kitchen or any luxury interior design.
Quartzite CrystalAn elegant marble surface, Quartzite Crystal exudes a mysterious quality with its almost translucent appearance. Shades of russet and pale grey sweep across an ice-white canvas in sharp patterns with a soft finish. With its gentle shades and soft movement, this marble can be used to create a cool or feminine atmosphere in your interior.
Rain GrayRain Gray’s blue-grey undertones and fine networks of winter white veins offer the traditional look of marble. Rain Gray is ideal for column cladding, commercial buildings and lobbies, or even residential developments. Striato OlimpicoWith its unmistakable patterns, Striato Olimpico shows off its stepped, horizontal, grey-and-white striations to perfection. Natural marble is a relatively soft stone that needs regular maintenance and sealing. Consult your local fabricator for guidelines on how best to care for your marble surfaces to ensure optimum performance and longevity.
Verde BiancoThis striking marble is reminiscent of cubism: the early 20th-century style and movement in art in which interlocking planes, geometric shapes and collage were used. With bold combinations of black and white interlocking shapes, interspersed with lime green, Verde Bianco marble makes for a memorable addition to any space.
Verde GuatemalaVerde Guatemala marble is as eye-catching as it is exotic. With an emerald green base and swirling, black veins, this marble material can help to effortlessly create intrigue and drama in any space. As marble is a relatively porous and ‘soft’ stone, be sure to follow your fabricator’s care and maintenance instructions to get the best wear out of your surfaces.
